We are delighted to bring you this guest post from Jason Mundok, one of the creative forces at Wood Stove House. We have enjoyed every endeavor we have had with them, and appreciate all of the hard work they do to bring the arts to Lancaster (we must give a shout out to Steve Carlson too, one of the other creatives at Wood Stove House).
What does Lancaster’s best fresh and healthy grocer have in common with our small performing arts company called Wood Stove House? Space!!! ...and a deep appreciation for the arts. Strong relationships between local businesses and the Lancaster arts scene are very important to continuing and strengthening the arts renaissance that has been unfolding over the past several years in the city. Our relationship began last fall when Lemon Street Market was one of the local businesses that sponsored our experimental theater production called Lancaster’s 24 Hour Plays.
A goal at the Wood Stove House is to produce creative events in spaces that are primarily used for other things, so when we were looking for locations in Lancaster City to serve as temporary stages for our on-site theater project last spring, the parking lot at Lemon Street Market came to mind as a perfect option. It became the first stop in Play Grounds: Theater On Site, a show that featured three one-act plays held in three locations around Lancaster City. The audience congregated at Lemon Street Market (pictured above), watched the first play, and then moved from site to site, led through the streets of Lancaster by a pied fiddler!
We have continued to partner with Lemon Street Market this summer, offering one of many locations around Lancaster City where live music brings the streets alive every third Friday evening. Dubbed as Music Friday, the parking lot at the market hosts the Wood Stove House Stage @ Lemon Street Market. The concerts are free and open to the public and provide a relaxing space for families and friends to gather for an enjoyable evening of live music as the sun sets over the city. Lawn chairs, blankets, and picnics are encouraged; and food and refreshments can be purchased inside the market at the Herd of Turtles Cafe.

We’ve already hosted concerts this summer with Lancaster’s Mark DeRose and the York county duo Sarah Beth & Dani Fiore. Coming up this week on Friday, August 17, at 6pm we welcome two Lancaster songwriters, Mike McMonagle and Jordan Rast, for our final concert this season.
