This is a perfect spread for crusty bread and late summer tomatoes and basil, among many other sweet and savory uses. It's only available for a short time--so pick up a basket today! And, if you haven't tried their cagliata (cheese curds), look in our frozen section – this is the building block for the most amazing handmade fresh cheese. Not sure how to use the cagliata? Where: Lemon Street MarketCost: $55; includes a container of cheese curds to take home, ready-to-be-stretched
Back by Popular Demand! Yes. You. Can. Hand-stretched, local, fresh cheese in the comfort of your home. Join Essen as we welcome Rynn Caputo from Caputo Brothers Creamery, based in neighboring York county. Rynn and her husband Dave have turned the fresh cow's milk cheese world in the United States upside down with their "real" ricotta, fresh mozzarella, burrata, stracciatella and more, supplying most of the Top Ten restaurants in New York City and Philadelphia with their artisan treasures. Rynn will take us through the steps to transform their local cheese curds into a variety of fresh cheeses at home and turn a simple meal into a party. Of course, we'll be tasting. And, yes, there's always more. We'll send you home with a bag of Caputo's curds. Sounds like a great idea for a party! This workshop is naturally gluten-free. Advance registration required. Contact Betsey at Essen to register: betsey@essencooking.com or sign up via Essen's website: www.essencooking.com.
What's New in Produce: Look for local, certified organic green beans, kale, leeks, sweet corn, eggplant, potatoes, fennel, raspberries, lettuce mix, arugula, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, garlic, shallots, watermelon, cantaloupe, carrots, bell peppers, chard, and collards. We also have some local fruit using IPM (Integrated Pest Management) techniques--look for Harrow's Delight pears, Gingergold apples and Vanier Plums--in store now. Check out our certified organic Pink Pearl apples, coming in from the Pacific Northwest--they are a delicious, tart eating/salad apple with a beautiful rosy flesh. And if you're starting to think fall--we are now carrying local spaghetti and butternut squashes (arriving Tuesday) and locally-grown popcorn.
From our Cafe: This week's Sandwich Special has been an instant hit--thanks to our friend Thom at Thom's Bread! First, we take Thom's Cranberry Pecan bread, add organic provolone, turkey, local tomato, lettuce, and onion, spread on Tait Farms cranberry mustard to kick it up a notch, and then panini-press it all together. Trust us--it's delicious!
The Lemon Street Market Cafe offers exclusively locally-sourced and/or organic ingredients on our menu, fresh-pressed vegetable and fruit juices made from only organic produce, sustainable to-go packaging, and fair-trade organic coffee and teas. Our sandwiches and salads feature the organic produce and deli meats sold in our store, local artisan breads and bagels, and condiments from our local vendors. Our expanded smoothie menu allows you to add fresh, local fruit (in season) and local Fiddle Creek yogurt to any smoothie combination. We also offer fresh green salads and other light summer lunch items in our "to-go" fridge. Now that there's that little chill in the air most mornings, be sure to stop by on your daily commute to check out our hot coffee, teas, and lattes--we're open Monday-Saturday from 7:00am-3:30pm, Sundays 9:00am-3:30pm, and until 8:00pm First Fridays.
